Before embarking upon any physical fitness routine, you should first begin with prayer and fasting. This will help you to get your heavenly marching orders and gain understanding as to why you want to transform your body (1 Timothy 4:8) as you transform your mind (Romans 12:2).
After completing your season of prayer and fasting, consult your physician! Have a complete physical to assess your health baseline. In a full physical, you will find out what the physical condition of your body is and learn if your body is ready for a change in physical regimen. For example, if your blood pressure is significantly elevated, exercise could prove dangerous, if not deadly!
I recently had an annual physical. The doctor assessed my overall health to be good but she ordered 3 extended tests: cardiac echocardiogram (done and passed), cardiac stress test (done and passed), and colonoscopy (not done but thanking God in advance for a clean report). These tests my physician ordered because of family history and the fact I am approaching the big 5-0!
Now that I know my health is good, I can exercise with abandon! Every other day, I’m taking a tour of the neighborhood with intervals of sprinting (near full-speed) and walking. On the remaining days, I’m doing a combination of Furey squats, Furey pushups, wrestler’s bridge, the exercise wheel, swiss-ball exercises, and a few reps on my Weider bodyweight exercise machine.
Over the next couple of days, I will begin to reveal what the aforementioned exercises are and offer a suggested starting point. Also, we will be sharing recipes and supplement info that will be helpful in your goal to optimize your fitness.
Remember, an astronaut is only effective in space as his space-suit, a diver is only as effective in the sea as his wet-suit, and you will only be effective in the earth realm as your earth-suit!
