There are a great many folks who, sadly, lament the use of “unacceptable” genres of music in church. These same folks call music outside the scope of traditional hymns, “devil’s music,” and point an accusing finger at churches who eschew traditional music, saying they are being influenced by the world.
I believe the flow of music is bi-directional. Isaac Watts wrote many of his beloved hymns to pub music, which was the scandalous music of the day. The sound of Motown was influenced by church music. There is no such thing as “the devil’s music” because satan cannot create anything; he can only pervert and distort. Every note, rest, bar, measure, and scale belong to God. So, I say, bring on hip-hop, grunge, and dust-country if the net effect is winning souls!
