As we draw near to the time we celebrate the Lord’s birth, we experience trouble and turmoil all about us. But, like Peter – when he stepped out of the boat – we seem to be more concerned with the winds and waves around us instead of the savior before us with outstretched arms. It’s easy to get distracted, it’s easy to get sidetracked.
But, the Good News is that, though God was once at war with man, in Jesus, He’s drawn a truce. The war is over!
Peace between God and Man
Luke 2:8-14 – And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Isaiah 9:6-7 – For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 53:5 – But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Faith allows us to partake in the peace
Romans 5:1 – Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
God Permits peace of mind
Romans 8:6 – For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Isaiah 26:3 – Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
1 Corinthians 14:33 – For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Peace is a hallmark of unity
2 Corinthians 13:11 – Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
Psalm 29:11 – The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.
Peace puts your enemies at bay
Proverbs 16:7 – When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Peace is a hallmark of righteousness
Psalm 37:37 – Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
Isaiah 32:17 – And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Peace is an indicator of God’s power
Mark 4:39 – And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
God wrapped Himself in flesh – to experience life from the perspective of His children. Emmanuel, God with us.
In Jesus, He’s given us rest; He’s given us peace! We no longer have to toil out of necessity; instead we labor in love.
You see, that when we enter into the rest of God, we experience the rest of God. In other words, when we trust in Him, He allows us to see increasingly more of Him!
