Author’s Note: This message was originally preached at the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship Breakfast on Saturday, February 2, 2013. I was humbled and honored to address this august body…

Ephesians 1:19-21

And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.

Plugged In

The first thing we need to understand is that God is the source of everything. And because Jesus is the express image of the Father, he represents the interface to the Father. Let me give you an illustration: power is only useable when you have the right interface. When electrical power is generated, it is done at between 200,000 and 400,000 volts. It is then transmitted via high-tension lines to substations that reduce the power to the 240 volts commonly used in the typical home. The device used to step this power to a useable level is called a transformer. And about Jesus – the interface to the power of God? Without Him, attempting to access the power of God would prove futile at best and fatal at worst!

The first step in plugging into God is being Born Again. You have to be a natural-born Citizen of the Kingdom of God…because there are no illegal aliens in the Kingdom! Hence, in order to have hope of experiencing the power of God, we must be submitted to the power of God!

We have to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). We renew our minds by the Word of God. Immersion and study of – and meditating on and manifesting the Word of God is key to the constant process of renewing our minds. Jesus is the Word made flesh…do you get what I’m saying? It’s Jesus who brings the power of God to our level

All power belongs to God but God has delegated it to man (Genesis 1:26-28). Indeed, the very universe is suspended by the Word of His Power (Hebrews 1:3). This was His original plan but sin interrupted that. However, glory to God, this is what Jesus came to restore!

Turned On

If you’ve contracted to have electrical power run to your house, it is available whenever you need it. When you need power to an appliance, you don’t go back to the electrical company and ask for power, you merely flip the switch.

Paul wrote in Ephesians 3:20…

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Did you catch that – the power is within us! But, just in case you missed it…

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

The same power that raised Jesus from the dead dwells within you!

Jesus told his disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they received power (Acts 1:8). What was the power He spoke of? The power of the Holy Spirit! It is the Holy Spirit who convicts the unsaved of sin. It is the Holy Spirit who teaches us all things.

So, how do we flip the switch? By prayer, study, and fasting. Turning on the power of God means speaking God’s Word to impossible situations. It’s Mark 11 faith – speaking to mountains and being fully persuaded that they will move at your command! But understand, if you aren’t connected to the power source, you cannot expect to benefit from the power. This is the difference between religion and relationship – religion makes power abstract; relationship makes power available!

Tuned In

WGOD – or KGOD for those of us west of the Mississippi – broadcasts 24x7x365. God’s signal – the Holy Spirit – is always being broadcast. The Holy Spirit is everywhere at all times and His Program – sozo in Jesus – never changes. That sozo, the Greek word commonly associated with salvation from sin but it means so much more – deliverance from demonic oppression, bodily healing, AND material blessing.

The good news is that this broadcast always conveys Good News, and that there is good news for you. The bad news is that the revelation of this good news only comes when you are listening.

Right now, there are radio and television signals in this room. And you could, wrongly, conclude that because you don’t perceive them with your natural senses that they are not there. However, turning on a radio or television and tuning in to a particular station, or making a call on a cell phone is evidence of the reality of these signals. Many folks, saved folks included, conclude that God’s power is not available because they cannot perceive it with their senses. Sadly, this is one of the key reasons the church operates without power, today.

So, how do we tune in? This is the part of discipleship where disciples graduate from milk to meat. This is where we transition from knowing that God is able to knowing God has already done it! This is where we transition from mere belief to faith.

Tuning in to Jesus means tuning out the world. When you’re serious about tuning in to what God is saying, you realize the importance of tuning out those things that are not revealing what God is saying. This means turning off the TV, radio, worldly music, and online pursuits. Tuning in to God means getting alone with Him, like Jesus did:

And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, (Matthew 14:23)

Tuning in to WGOD means exercising and manifesting your faith in a different way. Instead of speaking, it’s resting in the certainty that God will do what He says in His Word. Tuning in means devoting some of your prayer time to silence – where you take as much time to listen as you do to talk.

Any musician knows that the rests in music are just as important as the notes. Well placed silence adds depth and character to a musical piece. Silence in your prayer time avails you of the opportunity to hear what God is saying to you.

***

When you’re plugged-in, turned-on, and tuned in, you realize that you are the righteousness of God.

When you’re plugged-in, turned-on, and tuned in, you realize that you have been made free in Christ

When you’re plugged-in, turned-on, and tuned in, you realize that you don’t have to beg God or bombard heaven because you know that God has already done it.

When you’re plugged-in, turned-on, and tuned in, you realize that you are seated in heavenly places with Jesus

When you’re plugged-in, turned-on, and tuned in, you realize that you don’t have to wait for a move of God; God is waiting for you to move according to His Word and His Spirit

And you know that because you’re in Him, all things are under your feet

And you are the head and not the tail…you are victorious!
