You cannot be simultaneously a sinner and a saint. Why?
In order to abide in Jesus, His Word must abide in you (John 15)…
You’ve been made the righteousness of God in Christ by virtue of the New Birth (2 Corinthians 5:21)…
In Jesus, there is no sin (1 John 3:5) – and you’re IN HIM (see above)!
Whoever is born of God no longer sins willfully (1 John 3:9)…
You are a saint, re-created in the image of Christ (Colossians 3:10). Your citizenship and your family tree changes with the new birth!
Therefore, if you’re saved but confess you are still a sinner, you’re double-minded BY YOUR OWN CONFESSION, and we know where that leads…instability in all ways and with no expectation of receiving from God (James 1:7-8)!
You have the Spirit of God living inside you – and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17). You’ve been set free from the bondage of sin.
And, now, with this knowledge, you’re free from the bondage of religion, too.
